Something from 432 Suydam

Here's another edition from the Midday Veil Tour Mixtape Series - a mixtape circa 2003 from Brooklyn on the eve of the band's arrival in NYC. Be sure to catch them Sunday at Silent Barn, and Monday at Cake Shop.

Second tape (circa 2006) in the Midday Veil Tour Mixtape Series.
Catch them at SXSW the rest of the week!

Midday Veil Tour - Mixtape Series

Seattle band Midday Veil embark on a nationwide tour today that takes them to SXSW, LA Psych Fest, and many other fine venues across the country. A call was put out to their friends and neighbors for mixtapes to drive to in their tour van which is equipped with a cassette player, and having boxes upon boxes of old cassettes, dj slow gladly provided a melange of tapes from years gone by.

I'll be posting a tape here every few days or so, and to keep it interesting I'm leaving off track lists as the band is listening blind, and to be honest, I don't know them all myself.

Hope you enjoy the ride, and be sure to catch Midday Veil's powerful live show in a city near you.

WXBC - Bard Radio

Once upon a time in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, while working towards my BA in photography, I hosted a radio program on WXBC, Bard College radio. It was called, as you might have guessed, Music Meltdown.

WXBC DJ Booth

Organizing boxes of things from times gone by, I came across old cassettes of mixtapes from before I went digital, as well as the tapes from my first 3 shows on WXBC. I'd been meaning to transfer them for ages, and finally got around to it.

Here is show # 1, with episodes 2 and 3 coming soon - collections of random, on-the-fly musical tastes from my early-middle twenties (circa 2004) that went over both the internet and AM* airwaves. Check back for more of DJ Slow's WXBC Music Meltdown with shout-outs to friends lost and kept along the way, and also watch out for the Meltdown on Hollow Earth Radio every Saturday from 12-2pm PST starting February 18th.

All I Need is Jah: Jamaican Showcase '08

A taste of red gold and green for a snowy day in Olympia and probably elsewhere. Here's a mixtape* from last year that I thought folks would enjoy while other mixes brew....I'll get back with the tracklist eventually.

Oh, and click here if you want your own unique Lion of Judah Glory Hoop, pictured above.

*PS: I say mixtape as this is in fact transferred to digital from cassette. Can you feel it?
