Tarwater Meltdown on HER

The music collector and critic known simply as Tarwater graced the Meltdown headquarters in Seattle, WA for a short but sweet 48 hours while on a west coast visit from his enclave in Brooklyn. As one would expect, if not demand, records were purchased, beers were drunk, and playlists were made.

Herewith I present the podcast for the 7/7/12 Tarwater edition of Slow Music Meltdown on Hollow Earth Radio. Tracks selected by Tarwater and curated by dj slow.

Rest in Peace MCA

The Beastie Boys were a major influence during dj slow's formative years. Adam Yauch's passing is such a huge loss to the music world and creative community overall. Wishing his family and friends all the best in coping. He will be remembered.

Housse de Racket Finale - Chop Suey

Housse de Racket played a super tight and energetic show at Chop Suey a couple weeks ago. It was a fun night and cool to catch up with Victor who I had met a while back when he still played for Chicros.

Sorry about the crap sound - was standing right next to the speakers and recorded using the built in mic.

Krafterk at MOMA - A ticket debacle

I was lamenting the fact that I no longer live in NYC when I read about the string of performances by Kraftwerk at MOMA, but after hearing all of the tales of woe regarding waiting in the queue for tickets, it sounds like I would have missed out one way or another.

As my friend Gianni Bocce put it, "I had some Computer Love before queuing Endless Endless."

HER Broadcast in honor of Maisie Josephine

Maisie Josephine - born 2/18/12

As fate would have it, my little girl decided to make her debut on the same day my first broadcast - selected in her honor - was to air on Hollow Earth Radio. Needless to say I was a bit preoccupied when the show aired so I missed it. No worries if you did too, as I made a playlist you can download below. Slow Music Meltdown on Hollow Earth Radio

Starting this weekend tune in from 12-2pm Pacific time every Saturday for Slow Music Meltdown on Hollow Earth Radio!

This weekend's show is dedicated to the baby my wife and I are expecting any minute. Tender songs of love and affection, with a healthy sampling of cosmic lullaby tracks to sooth the infant in all of us....

*A note to listeners: For the meantime my show is pre-programmed using a service called Airtime and is not actually live, so unfortunately I can't take any calls or requests during the show. If you have any thoughts or requests for the weeks to come, feel free to let me know....

WTF, FBI!

I learned last night of the death of Megaupload, a popular site for file sharing. Some may see this as a victory for anti-piracy; I would have to disagree and side with several professorial music bloggers whose archives of rare, out-of-print music is now gone from the interweb, perhaps forever.

This is a travesty as the intentions of these sites was not to take money from the pockets of Lady Gaga and the like, but to educate their legions of fans on the aural treasures to be found in far reaches of the world that may have never surfaced or be heard otherwise.

I'm not sure of any effort to combat this issue, but let's hope vaults will be re-opened someday soon.

Read more about the blogs affected at Bodega Pop.

WXBC - Bard Radio

Once upon a time in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, while working towards my BA in photography, I hosted a radio program on WXBC, Bard College radio. It was called, as you might have guessed, Music Meltdown.

Organizing boxes of things from times gone by, I came across old cassettes of mixtapes from before I went digital, as well as the tapes from my first 3 shows on WXBC. I'd been meaning to transfer them for ages, and finally got around to it.

Here is show # 1, with episodes 2 and 3 coming soon - collections of random, on-the-fly musical tastes from my early-middle twenties (circa 2004) that went over both the internet and AM* airwaves. Check back for more of DJ Slow's WXBC Music Meltdown with shout-outs to friends lost and kept along the way, and also watch out for the Meltdown on Hollow Earth Radio every Saturday from 12-2pm PST starting February 18th.

*(At that time WXBC was on 540am in addition to being online - not sure if that broadcast still lives or not.)
